6/10 - For those of you who are familiar with the Star Wars: Battlefront series, this game is along the same lines. Created by the same designers, LOTR: Conquest takes the basic principal of being just your average soldier in a legendary war. Normally I would comment about the Storyline or Characters, but I think we all know the story and peoples of Middle Earth well enough that I don't need to delve into it too much. Suffice it to say, that you can re-live the epic battles and save...or conquer...Middle Earth.
Easy Achievements make LOTR: Conquest worthy of renting, and I admit, it IS kinda kickass to rock the mines of Moria as a Troll or even a Balrog.
The gameplay is interesting and takes some getting used to, but isn't bad. The graphics are hardly mind-blowing, and border on satisfactory, which is understandable given the amount of rendering the machine has to do when dealing with literally hundreds of characters on the map at any given time.
Multiplayer is for the most part fun, although not my personal cup of tea. Having said that, I can totally see the draw to it, and certainly has potential as a Multiplayer game for Fantasy junkies. Having been a former World of Warcraft player, I can liken the Multiplayer in LOTR: Conquest to be like Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley combined.
The "Commander" who tends to snap orders such as "Hold the front lines!" and "Capture the objective!" is abit over-dramatiscized and kinda cheezy, but is my only real distaste for the game.
Typically I dont rate games on a scale of 1-10, but this would land a solid 6.5, maybe a weak 7. Not one I PERSONALLY would purchase, but I have enjoyed the rental.
